Metadata & Systems Technician (PH)

Recognizing the unique and enduring creative legacy started by Walt Disney, the Walt Disney Archives was established in 1970 to collect, preserve and make available for research the historical materials relating to Walt and the company he founded.

As the Walt Disney Archives grows and expands its services, collections, programs, and outreach, to both internal and external clients and employees companywide, the department is seeking an enthusiastic, forward-thinking, motivated professional eager to join their team.

The qualified candidate must be able to perform vital data curation projects and efforts for Walt Disney Archives’ Collections Management System and Digital Asset Management systems. This individual will carry out data profiling, integration, augmentation, matching and standardization processes to support efficient record creation, effective searching, and relational linking of records. This role will support overall data efforts and will be involved in conversations and assessments of data strategy and practices for the Walt Disney Archives.

The role also includes assisting in the ingest of digital files into the Digital Asset Management system and QC of digital content. Working with controlled vocabulary in various systems by adding / modifying / removing terms via research to make data improvements. Helping to maintain media on our servers once it is received by metadata for processing. Cleaning storage to make room for incoming media.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Perform descriptive cataloging, subject indexing, and authority control using a relational database and apply metadata to records across all asset types.

  • Perform quality control checks on existing records and newly ingested records to ensure appropriate metadata usage.

  • Ingest of digital files into Digital Asset Management Systems and adhere to data governance standards and procedures established for the Walt Disney Archive and provide suggestions for continued evolution of standards and procedures.

  • Provide data management support for database systems and Applies knowledge to evaluate, edit, aggregate, enhance, transform, and disseminate existing metadata of advanced complexity based on established Walt Disney Archive metadata policy.

  • Adhere to data governance standards and procedures established for the Walt Disney Archive and provide suggestions for continued evolution of standards and procedures.

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:

  • MLIS from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent.

  • At least 1 year of experience working with collections management and or digital asset management systems.

  • Previous experience with relational databases preferred.

  • Knowledge of current library, archival, and museum metadata standards, such as EAD, Dublin Core, VRA Core, PB Core, CIDOC-CRM, and other emerging standards.

  • Familiarity with controlled vocabularies such as Library of Congress Subject Headings, Thesaurus for Graphic Materials, Getty Art & Architect Thesaurus and Nomenclature.info.

  • Familiarity with film and television industries; Knowledge of cinema history.

  • Experience with database structures and data management.

  • Familiarity and knowledge of The Walt Disney Company, and its associated brands and affiliates, both past and present, a plus.

  • Highly organized and detail oriented.

  • Ability to problem-solve and manage various projects simultaneously and successfully.

  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills

The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is $47,900 - $64,100 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
